API Hub

Terms of Service

In force from 6 October 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Sam Smith Codes ("we", "us"), who runs API Hub, about using API Hub: this website, its API and its documentation (together, "the service"). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you're using API Hub for an organisation, you agree to them for that organisation, and confirm you're allowed to.

Who can use the service

You must be 18 or over to create an account.

Your account

  • Give us accurate details, and keep your email address up to date so we can reach you.
  • Keep your password, passkeys and API keys secret. You're responsible for everything done with your account and your API keys.
  • If you think someone else has your password or an API key, change the password or suspend the key straight away, and tell us.

For audit and security, we keep a log of logins, failed logins and changes to your account, with the IP address and browser each came from. We use it to protect your account and the service, and to look into misuse. We keep it for the time set out in our Privacy Policy, including after your account is deleted. You can see your own recent activity on your Security page.

Using the service

You mustn't use the service to:

  • break the law, or help anyone else to;
  • attack, scan or probe networks or systems you don't own or have permission to test;
  • get around your rate limits or monthly quota, for example by using several accounts or sharing API keys;
  • overload, disrupt or try to break into the service, or anyone else's use of it.

Each API key can only use the APIs chosen for it. Every endpoint has a rate limit (how many requests a minute you can make to it), and your account has a monthly quota (how many requests a month you can make across all the APIs, with any of your API keys), which starts again at the start of each month. Your limits depend on your account's plan. We set the plans and limits, and may change them. Once you've used your quota, further requests are refused until it starts again.

You're responsible for how you use the service and what it tells you, including making sure your use is lawful. For example, if you send the service or look up information about other people, such as their IP or email addresses, data protection law may apply to you.

Fees

The service is free at the moment. We may introduce paid plans or features in the future, for example for higher rate limits or quotas. If we do, we'll tell you in advance, and we'll never charge you for anything unless you've chosen to pay for it.

What the service gives you

The service gives you a range of tools and information through its APIs, and we add more over time. Many of its answers come from other sources, such as public databases and other providers, and may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Don't rely on them for anything where a wrong answer could cause harm.

Some of those sources ask us to credit them: this product includes GeoLite2 data created by MaxMind, available from maxmind.com.

We work to keep the service running, but we provide it "as is". We don't promise it will always be available, or free of errors, and we may change, add or remove APIs and features. We'll try to give notice before removing something you rely on.

Suspending and closing accounts

We may suspend or close your account, or an API key, if you break these terms, if we need to protect the service or other people, or if the law requires it. Where we can, we'll tell you why.

You can stop using the service at any time, and delete your account yourself on your account page.

Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit. If you're a consumer, these terms don't affect your legal rights.

Otherwise, as far as the law allows:

  • we aren't liable for any loss of profits, business, data or opportunity, or for any indirect loss, arising from your use of the service; and
  • our total liability to you for anything arising from these terms or the service is limited to £100.

If you use the service for a business, you'll compensate us for any claims made against us by others, and the costs of dealing with them, caused by your breaking these terms.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. Whenever we do, we'll tell you before the changes take effect: we'll email you, and show a notice when you sign in, saying the date they take effect. You can read the new version on this site until then. (Changes to our Privacy Policy are explained in the policy.)

Your continued use of the service after that date, including through your API keys, means you accept the new terms. If you don't accept them, you must stop using the service and delete your account before that date, on your account page.

The law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can decide any dispute about them. If you're a consumer living elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
